Dare to Make a Model

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Take the opportunity to learn about and experience the work going on at the unique STEAM Education Centre in St Thomas, where we are supporting communities of learners making models of their world. Scientific inquiry is all about creating a model of the world and testing it to see how it lives
up to our expectations. Design thinking, coding and even the fundamental process of a child’s learning all rely on making a model.
Model making also lets you fail without fear - after all it is just a model!
Using examples from the STEAM Centre Field Trips, STEAM School and After-School Programming we will review some of the great educators and kids who have tested their ideas in the centre. We will explore curriculum links and the tools and models that make a difference. Finally, we will have a go at some interactive examples. With a taster of everything from jello optics to laser cutters, from big bad wolves to big head selfies, there will be something for everyone to discover!
